It’s Ramson Day! I know, it’s the day you’ve all been waiting for with Christmas coming a close second, but seriously, hear me out. If you’re listening to this when it is released, Sunday the 24th of April, get yourself down to Ramsbottom Station where Incredible Edible will be cooking up a storm using locally foraged Allium Ursinum (which sounds like something out of Harry Potter); this is better known as Wild Garlic, which is also known as the Ramsbottom namesake the Ramson.

Did you notice the opening line to this week’s episode? No? It was a quote from A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare who incidentally just had his 400th year anniversary of his death.

As well as William Shakespeare’s Death Day, it’s also been St George’s Day this weekend, I hope you’ve not been out slaying dragons in his name, they’re a protected species don’t you know? In fact the Ramsbottom Dragon is one of the rarest of them all.

On Saturday the 23rd of April me and the family went on a little trip to Rawtenstall via the East Lancs Railway. We’d never actually been to Rawtenstall before but were pleasantly surprised, it’s really good, lots of shops and cafes and really worth a trip down the train line. If you don’t know where Rawtenstall is it’s five miles north of Ramsbottom and only two stations away from Ramsbottom on the train taking only around 10-20 minutes. Whilst there we had a coffee and ice cream at Fresh Deli and it was great. Ramsbottom could learn a thing or two about the shopping experience in Rawtenstall too, I accept it’s bigger but there were just so many more shops then we have here.

Speaking of the East Lancs Railway; I still haven’t gotten around to sorting out a residents permit for ELR, this meant it cost £16 return for two adults and my son who was free as he’s under 5.

If you don’t know about the residents permit on East Lanc Railway it essentially gives you cheaper fares for being a local. For just £12 for three years you get a massive discount, where we paid £8 per person for a return, it’s only £5.50 with a residents permit. That means it would make the £12 cost per adult it will pay for itself in less than five return journeys, and even less if you’re also paying for children as up to four children can receive a discount on one residents permit.

Ramsbottom United waited until the last game of the season to pull out a cracking result with a 4-0 win over Ilkeston at home. This result came after the announced departure of the previous manager Garry Vaughan, is this the sign of things to come? Let’s hope so, as you know we have been relegated to the First Division football for next season, but I think this will enable us to do three things, review, recover and rebuild.
