He takes us on a journey through his rich lyrics and compositions chronicling the American experience from his position as an outsider fuelled by nerdiness, whimsy and cynicism. His songs are often puzzles and far from predictable. His melodies borrow from Tinpan Alley, the blues, cabaret, American roots, lush romantic classical tropes and Kurt Weill. Above all, the deep unease about the future of America that has inspired his creativity and fuelled his satire his whole life sums up the anxiety people feel across the world at this time.
