The landscape of New Zealand's largest city is dotted with 48 volcanoes. The oldest volcano last erupted some 150,000 years ago – the youngest, Rangitoto Island, is just 600 years old. A symmetrical volcanic cone, it has been colonised by red-flowering pōhutukawa forest. Archival audio sourced from Radio New Zealand Sound Archives, http://www.soundarchives.co.nz/.
