While local violent crime rates in other areas — like burglary, robbery and aggravated assault — have declined in recent years, our rate of rape in Boulder County has not. Joining us to discuss sexual violence in our community are Katharina Booth, Chief Trial Deputy and head of the Boulder County District Attorney’s sexual assault and domestic violence unit; Lora Blakeslee Atkinson, executive director of Moving to End Sexual Assault; and Dr. Janine D’Anniballe of Mental Health Partners, who specializes in sexual trauma. Together, we discuss misconceptions about rape, the magnitude of our local struggle with sexual violence, and what we can do to make our community safer.
