Your business, your family and your health all depend on something most of us neglect: the human spirit. When it is weak or crushed, even the strongest life begins to crumble. In Part II of this series, Pastor Isaac Opare shows how a developed spirit helps you recognize God’s voice, spot open doors, and make decisions with peace.

    Summary

Building on Part I, Pastor Opare reminds us that the human spirit is “the lamp of the Lord” (Proverbs 20:27), the place where God speaks to us directly. He cites Proverbs 18:14, which says a healthy spirit can sustain a person through sickness, but a crushed spirit is harder to bear.

He recaps four ways to develop the spirit: a word-based personal conviction, walking in the Spirit, keeping a clean conscience and living in holiness, and acting quickly on the voice of your spirit.

The message then expands on acting on that inner voice, using two biblical examples:

    • Paul at Troas (2 Corinthians 2:12-13): Paul saw an open door for ministry but had no rest in his spirit because Titus was not with him. A developed spirit helps you identify real opportunities and notice when something is missing.
    • Rebekah and Abraham’s servant (Genesis 24:17-25): Rebekah quickly recognized, in her spirit, that the stranger at the well was from God, and she acted on it. Her story shows how spiritual sensitivity can shape major life decisions such as marriage.

Pastor Opare then adds two more disciplines for strengthening the spirit:

    • Meditating on God’s Word (1 Timothy 4:15, Joshua 1:8): Whatever you meditate on grows. Meditate on God’s Word rather than your problems, and it will become your first response when life happens.
    • Fasting and prayer (Matthew 6:16-18): Jesus said “when you fast,” not “if,” making it a regular discipline. Fasting done in secret carries a reward from the Father.

    Key Takeaways

    • Neglecting the human spirit can undermine every other area of life.
    • Peace, or the lack of it, in your spirit is a signal to pay attention to.
    • Acting quickly on spiritual promptings helps you avoid costly mistakes and recognize God-given opportunities.
    • Meditation on Scripture, fasting and prayer strengthen your spiritual sensitivity.
