SUMMARY OF THE BIBLE
Exodus 19 20 21.
Chapter 19
On the third new moon after the Israelites' departure from Egypt, they enter the wilderness of Sinai. They camp in front of the mountain there. The LORD calls to Moses from the mountain. Moses must tell the Israelites that because the LORD delivered them from the Egyptians, they must obey God and keep his covenant.
Lesson
God revealing himself to us through the history of his relationship with Israel preserved for us in a collection of ancient Hebrew texts
Chapter 20
The Lord reveals the Ten Commandments Israel is to bear witness that the Lord has spoken from heaven—The children of Israel are forbidden to make gods of silver or gold They are to make altars of unhewn stones and sacrifice to the Lord.
Lesson
The first commandment reminds us that everything in the Torah flows from the love we have for God, which in turn is a response to the love he has for us. This love was demonstrated by God's deliverance of Israel “out of the house of slavery” in Egypt
Chapter 21
God gives Moses further commands to give the people. If someone purchases a male Hebrew slave, that slave must be set free in their seventh year of service. The exception is if a slave freely decides to stay, out of love for his master, in which case the master should pierce the slave’s ear as a sign of this bond before God.
Lesson
If we violate the laws of God, then He requires us to make restitution. They also learned that making and keeping covenants with the Lord helps us qualify to receive the blessings of the Atonement of Jesus Christ
