A good breeder will breed to a breed standard which includes the dog's color and size. These days, dogs come in lots of rare colors and patterns, but is a rare color dog a good choice? When researching dog breeds, you'll want to be sure to note what colors are standard for that breed as a reputable breeder is not going to breed for rare colors or patterns. A good breeder will also not purposely breed down in size and many dogs that come in a "teacup" size can have health issues.

It is always best to do your research, find a rescue or reputable breeder, and never ever buy from a pet store or online breeder who will ship a dog to you.
