Greg and Dan speak with Dr. Katie Dana of the University of Illinois about the rare “double brood emergence” of cicadas expected this spring and summer.
Dr. Dana notes that Broods XIX and XIII, which emerge every 13 and 17 years, respectively will emerge simultaneously throughout parts of the Midwest and Southeast.
To add, some areas of Central Illinois could experience an overlap of the two broods.
