The 62nd edition of Rathole Radio is upon us. This time I played my usual eclectic mix of music and also performed a rather interesting live song. My impression of Brad Roberts low singing style went astray in parts but should make for an entertaining listen. So settle in and enjoy the music.

  • 00:00 – cypher talesce produit fait de I effet CC BY-SA Licensed— Banging choon!!! Get your glowsticks out and worship at the altar of rhythm. Big box, little box etc French artist living in Britain now I believe.
    • 08:00 – These AnimalsSide By SideCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Not much information available on this one. Found it in a random search on Jamendo. Liked it a lot. http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/88212
    • 11:19 – 8in8Because The OrigamiCC BY-NC Licensed – Another track from the Creative Commons super group. This group features Ben Folds (You should know him), Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls), Damien Kulash (OK Go) and Neil Gaiman (Legendary writer). Love the tag line “tomorrow’s super group today”.
      • 18:17 – No Colour Broken TurntablesCC BY-NC-ND Licensed – Another one from CCHits. Interesting instrumental hip hop.
      • 22:06 – Elephant NoisePlease Let Me Be An AnimalCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A Spanish band I found while doing a search for Elephant on Jamendo. This new way of finding music is cool. This is from their self-titled album – http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/79202
      • Creative Commons label Bad Panda Records have passed 100 releases and they celebrated by making the tracks available in one big download– 9 hours 46mins of music in a 1.1GB file.

        • 28:04 – From Bad Panda – The Parish Of Little CliftonIt’s Okay, RosanneCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Canadian multi-instrumentalist who’s only 19 years old. Impressive stuff.
        • 32:23 – Orphan SongsWhat You Want Is Lost CC BY-SA Licensed — Lovely bit of folky stuff from Swedish artist Orphan Songs. Really enjoyed this.
          • 38:23 – The PatinettesMystic Monkey CC BY-NC-ND Licensedhttp://www.jamendo.com/en/album/92449 – Found this during a random search for “monkey” on Jamendo. Spanish band with female singer. I like them a lot.
          • 43:45 – LIVE TRACK – My rendition of “Superman’s Song” by Brad Roberts. One of their lesser known songs but a classic in my book. Thanks to Craig Edgmon for emailing with this request and reminding me of the tune. I used to sing it many years ago. It’s been a while.

            • 49:39 – Dickey FSnake Skin BluesCC BY-SA Licensed – Some instrumental blues with nice guitar work from Unkrainian Dickey F. I don’t know if the blues is big in the Ukraine but it sounds like it should be http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/94015
              • 57:39 – KursedGenerationCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Kursed are a French band that my friend Anna found on Jamendo and kindly sent me. We were discussing searching Jamendo with one word and this came up – http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/96921

                • 00:00 – Tab Benoit – Come And Get It – License Unknown – Heard this on the Roadhouse podcast number 324 and had to play it. Great tune. Check out Tab Benoit’s website and his new album Medicine.
                  • 06:50 – Lejo Harmeson & EssenceComplicated Man – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Heard this on the CCHits weekly review show and liked it. Got to the site, listen to the shows and vote, we need people to participate!
                  • 10:50 – Regra 4Samba Groove, a volta do homem pro mato – CC BY-SA Licensed – One I found randomly while surfing Jamendo.
                    • 15:41 – Partition 36The Optic Nerve – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played a track called “I Love Penguins” by this artist some time ago and this is a great follow up. Lovely slice of industrial sounding electro. Thanks to GamerChick02 for the tip.
                    • 21:38 – Derelict EarthThe Darkest Serenity – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A French metal band (from Grenoble), you don’t see many of those. They’ve obviously been listening to some early Metallica I think, and that’s no bad thing.
                      • 30:22 – Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln CenterPachelbel’s Canon In D – License Unknown – Kindly sent to me by Don_S who asked why I don’t play much classical music. As he guessed it’s often the length of the pieces and it’s tough to fit them in. I’m a fan though. (Lincoln Center blurb)
                      • 36:46 – Teddy Goldstein & The Goldsteins – New York City – License Unknown – Heard this on AMPed 280 and it was submitted by Peter Clitheroe of Suffolk & Cool. This reminded me of The Eagles in the vocal style and it’s a nice tune. I bought it off CD Baby.
                        • 43:14 – LIVE TUNE – Medicine Man by Dan Lynch – A tune I wrote some years ago and I have a feeling I might have played it live on the show before. I only realised after I’d done it. Well never mind, people seemed to enjoy it anyway. I’m hoping to soon record an album of tunes like this that have gotten away over the years.
                          • 48:49 – ‘Til Dusk – One By One – License Unknown – Emailed to me by Chris from the band. They’re based in Southampton in the UK. This track is taken from their debut album Cold Lust which is released May 16th and you can find out more at www.tildusk.co.uk
                          • Guest next time! Wayne Mayers AKA Fit & The Conniptions.

                            • 57:59 – Dual CoreMagnificent Seven (feat Nerdcore) – All Rights Reserved- A big thanks to Mark Horsley for emailing this track to me. I’ve heard Dual Core a few times but not this track. It’s from the 2009 album Next Level which you can get on Bandcamp and other places and it features almost everyone in Nerdcore it seems. Beefy, MC Frontalot and more.
