Welcome to Rathole Radio number 65. It’s hard to believe we’ve reached 65 already but there it is. I played my usual mix of eclectic independent tunes and chatted away with everyone listening live. I skipped playing an acoustic tune as we had a packed show anyway. I hope you enjoy it

00:00 – Paul Liddell – Ghost Car – License Unknown – I heard this via the Liverpool Acoustic Spotlighthalloween show and friend Graham Holland. Buy the EP Help Yourself Float from Paul’s website.I played Graham Holland’s amazing Roland Ratbumper he made for me!! :)08:48 – Triplexity That FeelingCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Heard this on Jamendo. A Spanish artist I’ve played before who mixes jazz with breaks and other interesting elements. The track contains mobile phone interference noises, it’s not me!!

13:56 – M.A.S.T – The Rise Of Eastern StarLicense Unknown – This track was an email suggestion from Ratko Vujanovic. This group did the music for a Guild Wars podcast called Relics of Orr apparently.

I played a promo for The Bugcast which is hosted by fellow AMP members Dave and Caroline Lee.

24:12 – A Minor TheoryDream In BlueCC BY-NC Licensed – From CCHits – A slice of retro sounding electro pop that I really enjoyed. It has a very 80’s feel.

27:44 – TabloidThe Junkie Violin PlayerCC BY-SA Licensed – From CCHits – A UK band I heard via CCHits and wanted to share with you. Find them on Jamendo.

Check out Kevie’s TuxJam show. Inspired by RR apparently. I’m honoured.

36:06 – Slim – Ghost Island – License Unknown – Another track I heard via fellow Liverpool podcaster Graham Holland. A singer songwriter from Hackney, North London. Buy the album ‘Slim’ and download this track for free from his website.

42:36 – Freak Fandango OrchestraRequiem For A FishCC BY-SA Licensed – I had an email from the band saying their new album Tales Of A Dead Fish was out on Jamendo. They are from Barcelona and I’ve played them before. I like their quirky sound.

Extra Barcamp Liverpool show details – Friday November 18th at 8pm UK time. See the website for venue details and come down. It’s free and everyone is welcome.

51:00 – CathleenHold meCC BY-NC-SA Licensed From CCHits – Heard this on the CCHits weekly show and liked it a lot. Despite the Irish name and slightly folky sound Cathleen is actually German. Very nice song.

55:53 – JiboulNaz-PartyCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A track I heard on Jamendo but I’ve actually played the artist before.

I had an email from Ted Strait, also a listener of Linux Outlaws to ask if he could rebroadcast the show on http://www.radioreclaimed.com/. Of course I said yes.

64:00 – David Rovics Occupy Wall Street – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Friend of the show, former guest and roadshow participant David Rovics with a studio recording of his new song about the reasons to occupy wall street. Obviously a big movement going on right now.

  • 00:00 – Tab Benoit – Come And Get It – License Unknown – Heard this on the Roadhouse podcast number 324 and had to play it. Great tune. Check out Tab Benoit’s website and his new album Medicine.
    • 06:50 – Lejo Harmeson & EssenceComplicated Man – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Heard this on the CCHits weekly review show and liked it. Got to the site, listen to the shows and vote, we need people to participate!
    • 10:50 – Regra 4Samba Groove, a volta do homem pro mato – CC BY-SA Licensed – One I found randomly while surfing Jamendo.
      • 15:41 – Partition 36The Optic Nerve – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played a track called “I Love Penguins” by this artist some time ago and this is a great follow up. Lovely slice of industrial sounding electro. Thanks to GamerChick02 for the tip.
      • 21:38 – Derelict EarthThe Darkest Serenity – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A French metal band (from Grenoble), you don’t see many of those. They’ve obviously been listening to some early Metallica I think, and that’s no bad thing.
        • 30:22 – Chamber Music Society Of Lincoln CenterPachelbel’s Canon In D – License Unknown – Kindly sent to me by Don_S who asked why I don’t play much classical music. As he guessed it’s often the length of the pieces and it’s tough to fit them in. I’m a fan though. (Lincoln Center blurb)
        • 36:46 – Teddy Goldstein & The Goldsteins – New York City – License Unknown – Heard this on AMPed 280 and it was submitted by Peter Clitheroe of Suffolk & Cool. This reminded me of The Eagles in the vocal style and it’s a nice tune. I bought it off CD Baby.
          • 43:14 – LIVE TUNE – Medicine Man by Dan Lynch – A tune I wrote some years ago and I have a feeling I might have played it live on the show before. I only realised after I’d done it. Well never mind, people seemed to enjoy it anyway. I’m hoping to soon record an album of tunes like this that have gotten away over the years.
            • 48:49 – ‘Til Dusk – One By One – License Unknown – Emailed to me by Chris from the band. They’re based in Southampton in the UK. This track is taken from their debut album Cold Lust which is released May 16th and you can find out more at www.tildusk.co.uk
            • Guest next time! Wayne Mayers AKA Fit & The Conniptions.

              • 57:59 – Dual CoreMagnificent Seven (feat Nerdcore) – All Rights Reserved- A big thanks to Mark Horsley for emailing this track to me. I’ve heard Dual Core a few times but not this track. It’s from the 2009 album Next Level which you can get on Bandcamp and other places and it features almost everyone in Nerdcore it seems. Beefy, MC Frontalot and more.
