The government's approval/popularity rating sank to an all-time low.

By the end of the year the prime minister’s approval rating (=how many people agreed with his policies) had fallen as low as 12 percent.

The governor’s overall approval rating stood at 55.7%, a slight decline from 57.3% in March.
