The Resurrection of Jesus rattled human history like no other event. His followers were hopeless and helpless after his death, and the shock, horror and grief from Friday to Sunday must have been overwhelming. But when an angel first brought the news of Jesus’ resurrection with the words, ‘he has risen’, everything changed. The final word on Jesus was in. His resurrection was proof of divinity, his word, the Gospel, and the power of the cross. Because of the Resurrection, the cross has the final word about you. Because of the cross we can draw near to God in faith and have life, or choose to reject it and experience death. For those who believe, the power of God forgives our sin, and we are justified, redeemed, reconciled, adopted, empowered and like Ezekiel’s dry bones we will live again. But if we choose not to draw near to God in faith, we are condemned by the cross, as catatonic as the tomb guards, and foolishly deceived like Jesus’ enemies who bribed them.
