In San Antonio, Texas, an apartment complex sits atop the unmarked graves of twelve of my ancestors. My grandmother, Charles Etta Underwood, did everything in her power to stop the construction, but the development moved forward regardless. To honor them, I’ve fictionalized this account to shed light on the systemic disrespect of sacred ground. Through this story, we explore the heavy price of disturbing those who were meant to rest in peace.
