Our friends meet the sexless and hairless Elf, Mergolene, who recites a poem which (they claim) will allow access to the Fortress where the Ruby is currently kept. Reminded of their mission, the friends never-the-less decide to complete it only after they have taught the Rust Brothers of the Toll Boom a lesson. They recruit Vincent's band of soldiers.
