Every now and then you have a day in your life where time stands still and you find yourself deep in conversation with one of your greatest teachers on the planet. That day took place for me the last week of February, 2023, when I got to interview Linda Kohanov from my family's mountain home where I was on a book writing retreat. After long periods of silence, the questions and conversation flowed for over two hours!
We have broken this interview up in to two episodes for just that reason - Part 2 will drop tomorrow, on March 11th.
In this episode, you'll hear all about our personal and collective experiences of the pandemic on a deeper level, more about her new dog, Ravi, and how the human-horse system works. Linda's insights about not asking the question of "who started it," but instead immediatly flowing in to a responding posture is amazing to witness. We discuss omnivores, and the predatory gaze here, along with probing trust issues, addiction and mental illness in our culture.
You'll find Linda's explanation of the 5 roles of the Master Herder fascinating, as she describes how the sentinel role, and all roles may be traded within a herd as well. For those who do not know Linda's work, she really started the Equine Faciliated Human Development movement in a literary sense the "Tao of Equus: A Woman's Journey of Healing and Transformation Through The Way of THe Horse" back in 2001. Since then, she has written over 16 books.
