This week, I had the pleasure of speaking with Melissa Gray, an attorney whose passion is guiding entrepreneurs through the legal side of building a business.
Melissa walks us through her career journey — from serving as general counsel at a billion-dollar company to starting her own law firm. Her firm is dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and getting them set up properly with things like contracts, trademarks, and business formations from the get-go.
One piece of advice Melissa emphasized? Don't just operate on handshake deals with partners or clients. She's seen too many entrepreneurs come to her after issues arise because they didn't have proper documentation in place. Getting the right agreements drafted upfront can save you major headaches down the road.
As a mom of three young kids, Melissa also shares her experience with entrepreneurship with a family. She emphasizes that to be successful, you need to be willing to ask for help, whether that's hiring someone or leaning on family and friends to give you a helping hand if possible.
Melissa brings a wealth of knowledge not just on the legal nuances entrepreneurs should know, but also the importance of taking a proactive approach and finding balance as a parent.
