The second part of the Sermon on the Plain is no easier than the first. Jesus teaches eye opening ideas. If we don't consider what he says our life will be washed away.

The reading opens with one audience of scoffers and closes with another, disciples. What is your response to Jesus' healing & teaching?

Luke 5.12-39

Jesus did not simply heal the sick. He taught all who would listen - and even those who did not want to listen.

Jesus begins to fulfill the prophecy of Isaiah which he read in Nazareth. By healing diseases and casting out demons people grew to recognize his power and authority. By a miraculous catch of fish, Peter feared his own sinfulness.

What does the temptation of Jesus teach you about your own temptation? What does Nazareths' rejection of Jesus reveal about your own heart?

John the Baptizer builds excitement for the coming Messiah!

God brought Jesus into the world to save simple people like you and I. This story reveals how four simple people, Joseph, Mary, Simeon and Anna were all blessed by Jesus.

What humble beginnings for the Son of God: born in a barn, revealed to shepherds.

Dear Elizabeth bears a child! What a blessing!

Zacharias and Elizabeth demonstrate their faith in God by naming their son in obedience. It seems simple enough, but an important lesson nonetheless.

The Angel Gabriel announces to Mary that she will bear a child, the Son of God! Praise God for his Salvation!

"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone ... For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
