Real Love

“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.” – Romans 12:9

Have you ever heard someone say “I love you,” but their actions didn’t match their words? Real love isn’t just a nice feeling or a phrase that sounds good. According to the Bible, genuine love hates evil and clings to what is good. If the “love” we’re showing tolerates wrong behavior, ignores sin, or stays quiet when truth is needed, then it isn’t real love—it’s fake.

Take the example of Eli, the priest (1 Samuel 2–3). He claimed to love his sons, but he failed to correct them when they were disrespecting God in the temple. He chose false peace over loving discipline. The result? Disaster. This shows that real love corrects, teaches, and takes a stand—even when it’s uncomfortable.

For young Christians today, this brings an important challenge: Loving your friends doesn’t mean ignoring their sin to keep the friendship; Loving someone in a relationship doesn’t mean letting bad behavior slide just to avoid conflict; Loving God truly means choosing what’s right, even when the whole world goes the other way.

“Cling to what is good” means to hold on to what’s right with all your strength. Don’t let go. Don’t compromise. That’s hard—especially when evil comes disguised as fun, popularity, or approval. But when God’s love is in your heart, and His Spirit is guiding you, you’ll learn to say: “If this doesn’t please God, I want no part in it.”

Challenge for Today:

Examine your actions. Has your love for people and for God been genuine? Is there an area where you’ve been tolerating wrong in the name of “peace” or fear of confrontation?Pray for strength to love truthfully—with courage, sincerity, and commitment to what is good.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me to love like You love. A real love that doesn’t hide behind nice words, but one that acts with truth, boldness, and grace. Help me hate what is evil and cling tightly to what is good, even when I feel alone in doing it. In Jesus’ name, amen.
