Reality Television And Student Loan Forgiveness | FEAT. Baewolf

Listen Later

Reality TV is television programming that documents purportedly unscripted real-life situations, often starring unfamiliar people, rather than professional actors... supposedly. Almost as old as the television medium itself, reality tv became recognized as a distinct genre in the early 1990s with shows such as The Real World and reached true popularity in the early to mid-2000s with shows like Survivor, The Amazing Race, and American Idol. Despite its mass popularity within entertainment, reality television has an interestingly impactful effect on modern society, making it a fascinating facet of culture that we have yet to fully realize... once you get past the strangely Orwellian nature of it that is.

Join us in episode 61 as the Wolf and Baewolf discuss the history of reality television, along with some of their favorite shows, and how reality tv as a distinct genre has an interesting net effect on culture. We also touch on the recent decision of the Biden administration to address the student loan crisis within the United States, and how, oddly enough, both of these topics, in a myriad of different ways, actually echo a potentially larger problem within society.
