Two years ago, Maedoc Lolaire turned against his own family and threw the kingdom of Crobhan into civil war. Along with the church that named Splendour Ciaran a heretic for their veneration of gods long-forgotten, Maedoc bound the great houses to his will and drove out his own blood. Now Maedoc sits the throne and consolidates power through an alliance with the calculating House Gearr.

The Rebel Crown Ciaran has returned from exile to seek both retribution and vindication. They will see Maedoc deposed, his crimes revealed, and the old gods restored to their rightful place.

With Ciaran is an unlikely trio of retainers.

Rowan Byrne, a mysterious outlaw with ties to the Feannag witches.

Harvest Honeysuckle, the royal executioner under both Ciaran and Maedoc, now pledging their life to Ciaran’s cause.

And last, Ciaran’s own blood, Venner Kraes, a decorated soldier who tasted betrayal at Maedoc’s hands before even the usurpation.
