Rebuilding the Approach to Servant Leadership

 

 

Art Barter believes that “how you get the results is more important than the results themselves.” To teach people about the power of servant leadership, Art started in his own backyard by rebuilding the culture of a manufacturing company he bought in 2004. Art took the traditional power-led model and turned it upside down; and together with his management team began to serve first. The result: 20x growth in six years.

 

In 2003, Art's leadership beliefs were challenged by leadership icon Ken Blanchard. He asked Art, "Was he serving first in his leadership?" That question made Art think about his thinking and started his servant leadership journey.
