In today’s recap, Marcello talks about a new bill that would make mining Bitcoin nearly impossible of it passes; Is the FEMA prepares for an emergency? Jets are landing on highways and a nationwide alert test is on its way.
According to the CDC, the 7-day average of daily coronavirus cases in the U.S. reached 72,790 last Friday, surpassing the peak seen last summer, when the nation didn’t have a Covid-19 vaccine. On the other hand, the U.S. has already reached the 70% of the population vaccine milestone, even as the spread of the delta coronavirus variant continues to cloud the outlook for the U.S. economy.
Emerging markets in Southeast Asia are being particularly hard hit by the ongoing pandemic. Indonesia’s PMI plunged to 40.1 in July from 53.5 in June. Manufacturing activity for July also fell in Malaysia & Vietnam, according to surveys. While still dealing with a surge of new infections, easing Covid restrictions helped India’s factory activity bounce back in July, as demand surged both at home & abroad.
In a 1st for major U.S. carriers, United Airlines will now require its 67K U.S. employees to get vaccinated against Covid, by no later than Oct. 25 or risk termination, the action will likely ramp up pressure on rivals who have so far resisted vaccine mandates for all workers, instead offering incentives like extra pay or time off to get inoculated. Delta Air Lines in May started requiring newly hired employees to show proof of vaccination. United followed suit in June.
