Receiving from God

Listen Later

Exodus 16:10-20

1. God‘s provision may not be what you expect.

God likes being unpredictable, because it makes us trust him more.

If you grumble, don’t forget to be humble (God asks us to trust him).

2. You are a participant in God’s provision.

Numbers 11:7-8

The manna was like coriander seed and looked like resin. The people went around gathering it, and then ground it in a hand mill or crushed it in a mortar. They cooked it in a pot or made it into loaves. And it tasted like something made with olive oil.

3. Know that God will give you what you need.

Exodus 16:16-18

This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent.’” The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little. And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.

Invite God into every moment. Come to him every day. Trust him for everything. Receive from him with gratitude and hope.

Jehovah Jireh is one of God’s names in the Bible: God our Provider

4. Your greatest need is God’s glory.

Exodus 16:10

While Aaron was speaking to the whole Israelite community, they looked toward the desert, and there was the glory of the Lord appearing in the cloud.

John 6:32-35

“Truly, truly, I say to you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. . . . I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst."

John 7:38-39

Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.
