Ignoring the first warning signs of a toxic culture is the experience that many victims of abuse have with the leaders and systems that abuse them. They stay and bear the pain until the damage eventually becomes overwhelming. This is especially true in churches because faith communities are supposed to be our ‘family’ in God. What’s tragic about it is that many people who’ve suffered spiritual abuse for long periods of time struggle mightily to regain their first love for the Lord. In this podcast I talk about eight ways to recognize toxic cultures and what you can do.

Dr. Arleen Westerhof is the co-Lead Pastor of the God’s Embassy Church in Amsterdam together with her husband Dick. She is the Founder and Facilitator of the Netherlands Prophetic Council and she co-leads the European Prophetic Council.
