Recognizing Your Dependence on God
Scripture:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” — John 15:5
Devotional:
It’s easy to move through your work relying on your own strength.
Your experience, your knowledge, your preparation, and your ability to solve problems can quickly become the foundation you lean on. And while these are gifts from God, they were never meant to replace your dependence on Him.
This past week offers an opportunity to reflect on a deeper question: What was I relying on?
Think back over your responsibilities, decisions, and challenges. Were there moments where you instinctively turned to your own understanding without seeking God’s guidance? Were there situations where you felt overwhelmed because you were carrying the weight on your own?
Self-reliance often feels natural—but it quietly distances you from the source of true strength.
Jesus makes it clear: apart from Him, we can do nothing of lasting value. That doesn’t mean you are incapable—it means that true fruitfulness comes from connection, not independence.
Dependence on God is not weakness—it is alignment.
When you remain connected to Him, your work is no longer fueled by pressure, but by presence. You begin to approach your responsibilities with humility, recognizing your need for His wisdom, His strength, and His guidance.
As you reflect on your week, consider where you may have relied too heavily on yourself—and where God is inviting you to depend on Him instead.
Reflection Questions:
Action Step:
Identify one area of your work where you tend to rely on yourself. This week, intentionally pause and ask God for guidance before taking action in that area.
Prayer:
Lord, I recognize how often I rely on my own strength instead of depending on You. Forgive me for the times I have moved forward without seeking Your guidance. Teach me to remain connected to You in all that I do. Help me to trust in Your wisdom, lean on Your strength, and walk in daily dependence on You. Amen.
