Santiago who is a member of the law firm Hurwitz and Fine also discusses how systemic racism has an impact on education, which has been exacerbated over the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent school closures. She also shares some ways which these problems can be solved.

Santiago also chairs NYSBA’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion which created a 28-Day Racial Equity Challenge during the month of February, she talks about some of the lessons people can learn from taking part in the challenge. She gives some tips for people to recognize and interrupt implicit biases.

She also discusses the challenges the legal industry faces in the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion space and how law firms can take steps to improve the number of BIPOC attorneys that are in their leadership ranks.
