In which our hero talks nonsense about Matchbox 20

In this episode I finally step into the light and regardless of the the stigma declare myself .... a Matchbox 20 guy!

I have a brief chat about a couple of "Guilty Pleasures" before getting into some of the reasons why I hold this generic rock band so close to my heart...spoiler...it's not really about the songs!

In which our hero talks nonsense about Manic Street Preachers

In this podcast I speak about one of my favourite bands that I haven't engaged with for nearly 20 years...Manic Street Preachers

I talk about what turned me onto them in the mid 90s and why I stopped listening to their new releases and how that was a massive mistake

In which our hero talks nonsense about his favourite albums of 2024

It's that simple.... just like everyone else I have a few things to say about some of my favourite albums of the year. Mostly "sad cowboy songs" but a few other things get a mention too

In which our heroes talk nonsense about their favourite "alternative" Christmas songs

Now I say alternative but I remember a time when The Pogues Fairytale of New York was considered a hipster pick for a favourite christmas song so this could go either way where some people go "whats alternative about that" or "nah, never heard that before in my life, whats the matter with ya"

But along the way we'll have a conversation about what counts as "alternative", steal a Christmas music quiz from a newspaper and share our Top 5 Christmas songs you might not hear in the supermarket.

In which our heroes talk nonsense about their favourite "traditional" Christmas songs

Sam is joining me for a show I think I'm calling "What Do You Mean it's still 2 weeks till Christmas...They've been playing this tune in the supermarket forever already"

So I guess what I want to get into is your favourite Christmas songs that you should be sick of by now or maybe a few under the radar tracks that still make it onto Now! That's What I Call a Christmas Cash in or whatever....yes folks still stupidly cynical about this most wonderful time of the year

After a festive game of Play of Your Cards Right we get into our Top 5 traditional Christmas songs

In which our heroes talk nonsense about Sleigher by Ben Folds

It's the second of our festive podcasts and Sam and have a chat about the new (and first) Christmas album from Ben Folds....Sleigher

There a potential for a double turn today as Sam is on record as "not a fan" of Ben Folds and Rob just a massive humbug (but huge Ben Folds fanboy)

Anyway...we look at a few other "original" Christmas albums before trying to cobble together a review of this perfectly titled album.

Don't forget Sam's Christmas singles are all available on the streaming platforms, please check them out.

In which our heroes talk nonsense about Zach Bryan

In today's show I'm joined by my partner in Country crimes, Jamie Onolfo as we discuss our favourite songs from Oklahoma's favourite son...Zach Bryan

I stumbled onto Zach Bryan when his 2023 self titled album popped up on a algorithm and it caught me a perfect time...just as I needed some sad songs about cowboys, lost loves and pick up trucks.

Over the last year he's quickly become a favourite for both me and Jamie so discuss our thoughts on his albums, look at some song rankings from around the world wide web and finally chat about our Top 5 Zach Bryan songs

In which our hero talks nonsense about his favourite records from 1994

I have absolutely no idea how 1994 is suddenly 30 years ago. I see 1994 as my default setting, the time when I woke up and became conscious....like Neo in The Matrix but less Jesus-y

Anyway, I have a theory that 1994 is the core year for where my record collection or musical tastes really become concrete....things I like I'll listen to forever and perhaps more importantly, the things I don't become more certain.

In today's show I go through 30 albums that turn 30 years old this year and try and explain why some of them have stuck for so long.
