The main conversation in Recovery is to "Recover From" something. In order to think clearly, and not be controlled by our pacifiers, and addictions, this is very important. The problem with that conversation is it's not sustainable. When we have a semblance of sobriety, or some success within our recovery program, how do we continue to engage within it if the conversation we are having is no longer relevant to our situation?
This is where the conversation of defining what it is we are recovering comes into lay. and we are all going to be recovering something different, because we are all very different. The fact that we will each be recovering ourselves, and we are all unique means that there is no one out in the world that has our answers. One of the first goals of recovering ourselves is to learn to listen to our lives, what we are experiencing and what we want. Doing this requires some effort and that is exactly what My upcoming book "Recover Yourself" deals with. I also work with my Portrait facilitation process to help people digest these easier.
Mind you, addiction is just a word. We all have pacifiers of some sort, we may even have great stories around why ours are healthy, but those are only stories. You are an infinite being and the more you know yourself the more you are going to be able to embrace your true nature and learn to love yourself deep than you ever imagined possible.
