Juan shares the heartbreaking story behind Dads Against Bluez. He talks about growing up surrounded by addiction and instability, becoming addicted at a young age, spending years in and out of prison, and missing important years of his daughter Angelica’s life.

He also talks about the moment he had to face a reality no parent should have to face: watching his own daughter struggle with addiction, mental-health challenges, homelessness, incarceration, and the streets.

Juan shares the last time he saw Angelica alive.

After her death, Juan had a choice. He could allow grief to destroy him, or he could allow God to use his pain for something greater. Alongside his family, he chose to honor Angelica by turning his loss into purpose.

Today, Dads Against Bluez is working in Phoenix to raise awareness about fentanyl, support fathers, educate youth, mentor families, and help break generational cycles of addiction and incarceration.

Originally from Las Vegas, Eric shares how substance use began early, leading to years of street life, violence, incarceration, and homelessness. While in custody, he reached a point of surrender, gave his life to Christ, and began building a different future.

Today, Eric is an outreach pastor at The River Church in Safford and a homeless outreach specialist with the Gila Valley Samaritan Home. He meets people where they are, helps connect them to showers, meals, laundry, treatment, sober living, and other resources—and reminds them that recovery is possible.

Inside prison, Ray’s addiction escalated into heroin, his anger toward God hardened, and politics and drugs became his way of coping—but his family never stopped showing up for him, making sure he had commissary even when he used it to fuel his habit. When he was finally released, he came home determined not to go back, but alcohol, meth, and later fentanyl quickly dragged him and his wife into another cycle of violence, overdoses, probation violations, and repeated trips in and out of treatment.
