Red Beard Talks Red Birds

Just in time for the Fall Classic to get started this week. We discuss Dave Brown's new book "Shadows of Glory - Memorable and Offbeat World Series Stories". Some of our favorite stories are about the Negro Leagues, the back story for David Freese leading up to 2011 World Series, Cliff Lee almost missed his first World Series start, and many others.

Red Beard Interviews General Manager of the 2024 FSL Champion Palm Beach Cardinals, Andrew Seymour. We look back on a GREAT 2024 season. The strong performances of key players like Chase Davis, Quinn Mathews, JJ Wetherholt, Lizandro Espinoza, Chen-Wei Lin, Josh Baez, and many others! We discuss the huge impact of the management, and the coaching staff Gary Kendall, Giovanni Carrara, Willi Martin, Bernard Gilkey, Gary LaRocque, and many others. And, if you are unaware, Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium in Jupiter, FL is a fantastic venue in a great area, and it is simply a joy to go see some ball games there. That includes seeing the big league club for Spring Training! Cannot wait to see all the boys back in February and March for Spring Training 2025!

Let's Go Cardinals!

"Got Your Answers" Written by Mike Greenberg, and Paul "Hembo" Hembekide, a sequel of sorts to the book "Got Your Number". Got Your Answers is a great book written with a mixture of gut instinct and LOADS of research, finding out the best of the best of all athletes, in all sports, in all times. We are debating the biggest wins, the best dynasties, the most clutch, and so on, and so on. This book is a ton of fun, and runs you through all major sports, and some of the greatest athletes, and greatest performances ever. This is entertaining, and I promise you will learn new sports facts!

Red Beard sits down with New York Times Best Selling Author Keith O'Brien to discuss his new Pete Rose biography. I highly recommend any and all baseball fans to get your hands on this book. Very well written, with much more research and details provided than ever before. Keith interviewed Pete, his family members, his teammates, his bookies, and many more. This is truly a book reporting on Pete's life, no judgements are made, no predictions are given. This is THE Pete Rose Story. It is also fascinating how this ties in SO WELL with all the questions surrounding Ohtani right now. Not sure how that will turn out, but there are some parallels that we are aware of right now.

Spring Training is wrapping up. Matt Johnson and I catch up, since our Spring Training game got rained out!

I was encouraged heading into this season, but lackluster performances, injuries, and the lack of another strong starting pitcher signed has me feeling less confident than I was a few weeks ago.

We discuss where the Cardinals stand right now, and what needs to happen for them to have a somewhat successful season.

To this point The Cardinals have a chance to win the NL Central, if things goes well, but not much else. They have not been built for a deep October run. If everything does not go well, then we may be in store for another disappointing summer. Hoping for the prior!

Live from Hobby Card Shop! Today I'm hanging out with Balker Yager the Owner of the Hobby Card Shop and my good friend Matt Johnson.

Oli Marmol just received a 2 yr extension from the Cardinals, before this pivital season has even begun!

Spring Break Out game #1 just finished, we recorded this podcast live in store, then we headed right back over to the stadium for the big boys to play their Spring Training game that evening.

We discussed the obsurdity of the timing of Marmol's extension, the ACTUAL goals of the Front Office, Victor Scott II, and some of the other players making a splash in spring training.

Red Beard had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch. It was a big day.

Enjoy!

Welcome to another episode of ask the fans. Today we are outside Roger Dean Stadium asking fans...

Who do you think will lead the team in steals this year?

Who do you think will be the teams MVP?

Who wore it better...  We even ask Brendan Donovan this question! When it comes to that head band we had to ask.

We always have such a good time talking to Cardinals fans. If you are a major fan don't hesitate to reach out. I'd love to chat with you.

We decided to head out to Roger Dean Stadium today (2/29/24)  for another episode of Ask The Fans. It's great to get a chance to talk to other Cardinals fan here at Spring Training. Here are the questions we asked them today.

What do you think about the Brandon Crawford signing?

What do you think about the current Cardinals starting pitching rotation?

What do the Cardinals need to do starting today if they want to make it to the World Series?

We'd love to hear your thoughts on these questions too.

Today I am talking to Dave Stovall, my cousin, lifelong Cardinals fan and owner of Texas Red Bird Remodeling. We discuss the Brandon Crawford signing, and the implications for the roster, and starting pitching needs. There are questions about the Cardinals self imposed salary cap, and what can be done to improve this roster beyond its current "Hopefully we win the division" way that it is set up. The Cardinals certainly took steps to improve this year's squad, but we are concerned that we may be left disappointed again. Depending on how this season unfolds, we may need to be looking higher into the organization with our concerns, and not just at the players and coaches.

I'd like to thank our sponsor The Hobby Card Shop in Abacoa in the heart for Jupiter, FL.
