After the success of movies like Sardar Udhham Sing, Dangal, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Saina and Shakuntala Devi, the biopic fever continues to grip Bollywood which has been already been accused of being starved of original stories. The latest addition to the list is the proposed biopics around the lives and political careers of Sanjay Raut of the Shiv Sena and Nawab Malik of the NCP.
These biopics are said to be in the planning stages currently and a major announcement will happen before the end of the month at an event that is said to bring all the major names of Bollywood and Maharashtra politics under one roof. The details of the event and the guest list is currently under wraps but is believed to be going to be one of the biggest events post the COVID19 pandemic in the city of Mumbai.
Sanjay Raut is the main spokesperson for the Shiv Sena and regularly uses the in house publication Saamana to put forth his political views and also his opinions on the state of the country. His influence although limited to Maharashtra, his voice has only grown louder since the Shiv Sena assumed power in the state after breaking their alliance with the BJP. The coalition between the Shiv Sena, NCP and the Congress was believed to be the product of the genius of Sanjay Raut.
He has been especially critical of the BJP government at the centre and has never shied away from openly calling out BJP leaders personally and his devil may care attitude was what inspired the production house to explore the possibility of creating a biopic of the mercurial leader said our source at Red Chillies Entertainment.
She also told us that Red Chillies Entertainment will not stop at just a biopic of Sanjay Raut, they will also focus on a biopic of controversial NCP leader Nawab Malik. Nawab Malik has been in the news lately for taking a strong stand whenever he felt that a Muslim has been unfairly targetted by the establishment. His strong views and presence in the Shiv Sena – NCP – Congress government in Maharashtra is often used as a counterbalance to the otherwise hardline Hindu image that the Shiv Sena has.
“Nawab Malik does not fear anyone and will do anything to shine the light to the places where it is needed. We need to show the whole of India how fearless a politician should be,” said our source at Red Chillies Entertainment.
She also told us that the Shah Rukh Khan – Juhi Chawla owned production house was planning this for a long time and that the recent case involving SRK’s son Aryan Khan has nothing to do with the announcement.
“The fact that both Sanjay Raut and Nawab Malik came out in our support and managed to change the investigation team from the NCB, start an investigation into the officer who was in charge of this case, get bail for Aryan and appoint a local SIT to look into the case is a clear testament that they are the leaders that our youth need to look up to. Our decision to make movies on their lives now seems to be perfect.”
She also told us that these biopics were part of a parallel cinematic universe that Red Chillies Entertainment is building that will include movies based on politics, the judicial system and the Maharashtra Police force.
She refused to divulge more information on the cast and crew of the two films but our sources in the industry have confirmed that the casting for various roles has been completed. The movie about Sanjay Raut will be directed by Hansal Mehta and actor Sonu Sood is billed to play the title role. Other actors who are supposedly part of the project include, Swara Bhaskar, Aftab Shivdasani, Shatrughan Sinha and Raveena Tandon.
The movie on Nawab Malik is taking a bit longer to finalise according to our sources as one of the conditions of the politician to make a movie on his life was that it needed to be done by a 100% Muslim crew. This is proving to be difficult, not because of the lack of...
