One afternoon in April of 1982, Margaret Barbera was leaving work when she was executed in a West Pier parking garage in the heart of Manhattan. Her death would trigger a tragic domino effect that took the lives of three other people within minutes: CBS Employees Leo Kuranuki, Robert Schulze, and Edward Benford. What investigators did not know, however, is that Margaret Barbera was not the first victim in this bizarre string of homicides. Jenny Soo Chin, a colleague of Margaret’s, had gone missing in January of 1982 and was feared dead as well. Were these murders robberies? Who was the initial target? And more perplexing, were they even connected? This case explores how power, money, and greed cross the threshold from white-collar crime to red-collar crime with a coverup turning violent and deadly.
