Beautiful red
"I hate my red hair!" and the story takes off.....
Tiffany feels like her red hair sets her apart from the rest of the kids around her. She just wants to be "normal" and blend in, not feeling all weird because her red hair makes her stick out from the rest of the pack. Her wise mom sits her daughter down and they have a tte-à-tte regarding the beauty that Tiffany possesses on top of her head. Her mother explains that the colour red is a beautiful colour. Why after all, roses are red, red is a colour in the rainbow and Christmas stockings are red....the world badly need the colour red. Red is the true colour of love.
With rich language and adorable, sweet illustrations Mom convinces Tiffany to accept her red hair which is one of her assets that makes her unique and special. This book is beautifully written and is sure to boost your child's self-esteem. It is a perfect read-aloud and will evoke lots of discussion about your own child's uniqueness, a uniqueness to celebrate not shy away from. I highly recommend this book.
Colorful & imaginative
Long time since I picked up a children's book (my kids are grown and gone and no grandkids yet), but I'm glad I spent some time with Tiffany Haisten's delightful âRed Is The Color Of . . .â It centers around a little girl named Tiffany (don't know if this is autobiographical) who comes home from school distraught because her classmates teased her about her red hair. Fortunately Tiffany has a sweet and understanding mom who lovingly walks her through why red is a good color, the color of many wonderful things, especially âthe color of the love that grows in your heart.â
This is a very upbeat book supported by colorful and imaginative artwork by Jason Hutton. Tiffany herself is rendered as cute but a little rag-tag, which makes her a real little girl. This book brought back happy memories for me of reading bedtime stories to my kids when they were small. Bet it will do the same for you, and if you have a little one, this is the book you want to cuddle up and share with them. Highly recommended.
Perfect for the Classroom
As a former first grade teacher, in my opinion, Red is the Color of... would be perfect for read-aloud story time with any class. An easy reader with beautiful illustrations makes it a delightful book to share in small groups or with the whole class. The theme of accepting both yourself and others would not be lost on younger readers and teaches a valuable lesson about caring for one another. I would recommend this book to anyone with small children and Pre-K-2 classroom teachers as well. Bravo to Ms Haisten for a job well done!
Hooray For Red Heads!
Being a ginger, I suffered all the normal insults. "Carrot top", "Tomato" "Little Orphan Anne"...you name it. I wish I'd had a book as lovely as this one back then.
