Not every teaching that sounds spiritual is actually true, and not every voice claiming to speak for God really does. In 1 John 4:1-6, John calls us to test what we hear against Scripture instead of just going with our gut. This week we're talking about why discernment matters, how to spot false teaching, and why the church, not just the pastor, is called to guard the truth.

Jesus didn’t come to condemn you. He came to rescue you. Even while we were still sinners and enemies of God, Christ died for us. If guilt, shame, or your past has you hiding from God, come into the light. In Christ, there is forgiveness, grace, and righteousness.

Roughly two-thirds of Americans call themselves Christian — but how can we really know who belongs to God? In 1 John 2:28–3:10, John gives a clear answer: God's children carry a family resemblance. Not sinless perfection, but a life increasingly marked by hope in Christ and the practice of holiness. This sermon examines what that resemblance looks like, and calls us to examine whose family we're really in.

God loved the world, so why does John command us not to? In 1 John 2:12-17, we learn what "the world" really is, and how it wages war on our hearts with a playbook that hasn't changed since Eden. Loving the world is loving something that's already passing away, so John points us to the One who remains forever.

Millions are confident they're going to heaven while their lives show no signs of heading there. But God doesn't want you guessing. In this sermon from 1 John 2:3-11, we look at three biblical tests of genuine faith and the assurance Christ offers to everyone who passes through them.

In 2 Corinthians 9, Paul finishes his appeal to the Corinthians about giving—and he refuses to guilt them into it. Instead, he points them to a God who supplies the seed, multiplies the harvest, and delights in a cheerful giver. This is generosity that flows from grace, not pressure: we give freely because God has first given freely to us. And when we do, our giving doesn't just meet needs—it overflows in thanksgiving to God, ending where all of it begins, with his indescribable gift in Christ.
