Acts 28:4-6, 23-27; Isaiah 6:9-10
In the final chapter of Acts, Paul and the crew of the ship he was on are welcomed by the people of Malta. Three months later, they set sail for Rome.
Upon arriving in Rome, Paul wasted no time and went to meet with the leading Jewish leaders there. He presented the gospel to them, explaining that Jesus fulfilled the prophecies made long ago. Moses spoke of Him, as did the prophets. Some of these leaders believed the message, but others left without accepting the truth Paul shared.
Jesus is the long-awaited Messiah that God foretold to His people, but unbelief clouded the hearts of many. The promised Redeemer had indeed come, and this truth extends throughout history and to the whole world.
The openness of heart that Paul exhibited is what God desires from us when we receive a promise from Him. We are called to be patient and to wait, rather than trying to rush or interfere, for "He who promised is faithful" (Hebrews 10:23). Perhaps ten years ago, God gave you a promise. Don’t rush; just wait on Him. He does not forget; He is simply waiting for the right time to fulfill it. He promised a Redeemer, and He came.
