n today’s Bible lesson, we continue our study of the Names of God by looking at Jehovah Nissi — The Lord Our Banner.

We first see this name revealed in Exodus 17, when Israel was fighting the Amalekites. As Moses lifted his staff, Israel gained the advantage, and when his hands became tired, Aaron and Hur helped hold them up. After Israel experienced victory, Moses built an altar and called it Yahweh-Nissi, meaning “The LORD is my banner.”

The banner represented victory, triumph, and the presence of God with His people.

Through Jesus Christ, we can have confidence in the victory God has given us. In this teaching, we explore:

• We have victory through Christ.
 • God always leads us to triumph in Christ.
 • Jesus’ victory on the cross defeated the power of sin and death.
 • We can stand confidently in spiritual battles.
 • Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
