Reducing Our Footprint

Reducing Marine Plastics with Alice Forrest, Marine Biologist

Listen Later

Join us this week with Alice Forrest, conservationist & marine biologist based in the hills of Byron Bay. Alice’s passion for the natural world and the creatures who inhabit it has led to a range of incredible adventures, from studying blue whales in the Indian Ocean to documenting the most plastic polluted beach in the world on remote Henderson Island. Her research also documented the first records of plastic inside commonly eaten fish in the South Pacific. This knowledge has then been used to implement plastic education programs in Fiji & Australia. Alongside degrees in Conservation and Marine Biology, Alice is a PADI Divemaster and SSI Freediver and has worked extensively in the marine tourism industry sharing her love of the ocean with others.

She is happiest when interacting with wildlife, and passionate about protecting what she loves. When she's not at home in her off-grid tiny house, she's usually on a boat or under the water, and believes immersing ourselves in nature is the best inspiration & motivation. Currently Alice works as a wildlife guide & lecturer in Antarctica & a whale-watching guide in the coastal waters of her home in northern NSW.
