Perfect for fans of C. Alexander London's The Wild Ones and Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH.
The question in this first volume is resoundingly clear: What can the peace-loving mice of Redwall Abbey do to defend themselves against Cluny the Scourge and his battle-seasoned army of rats? If only they had the sword of Martin the Warrior, they might have a chance. But the legendary weapon has long been forgotten - except, that is, by the bumbling young apprentice Matthias, who becomes the unlikeliest of heroes. Teeming with riddles, humor, unforgettable characters, and high-bounding adventure, the original Redwall is the launching point for a series that has captured the world's attention.

I love the Redwall series
The book that started it all! I love the Redwall series, and this is such a fun and cute book. I recommend it for everyone from Middle School all the way up to the elderly, you won't be sorry you spent time reading it.
The story is just as engaging and amazing as the first time I read it
Read it 15 years ago and recently started rereading with a student. The story is just as engaging and amazing as the first time I read it!
Five Stars
gave it as a gift to great grand daughter for Christmas-I loved the series-hope she does too
Very well written children's book.
This was the first book I can ever remember my mother reading to me so my opinion is very likely clouded by nostalgia. However, I decided I wanted to reread it in some spare time and it certainly lived up to the standard I remembered. Even as a young adult I found it as a very entertaining short fantasy with relatable characters. I fully plan on continuing to the next book in the series!
