Struggling with identity issues is a persistent problem in all humanity, not just for teenagers. Unfortunately, the attempt to understand ourselves, our place in this world, and what it ultimately means to be human typically involves a lot of self-exploration without any standard to assess the truthfulness of what we find. We set out on a mission of self-discovery but without consulting our Creator, and we end up empty at the end of our search ultimately because -You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our heart is restless until it rests in you- -Augustine, Confessions 1.1-. We must never think of ourselves apart from the original purpose given to us at our creation- to be the image of God- to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
