Johanna began at Bernard Zell in 2013 and 6th grade Science as well as a course on Identity, Race, and Segregation. This year, she stepped into an additional, part-time role as the Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Coordinator. She is a trained facilitator with the National SEED Project and is co-facilitating two SEED groups this year, one with Faulty and another for the BZ community. Prior to Bernard Zell, Johanna was a high school History teacher in Los Angeles and Costa Rica, and worked in the Education department at The Field Museum, crafting student courses on the collections and facilitating a "pop-up" museum made by high school youth.  One of her teaching mottos is "Sometimes the best classroom is ANYWHERE BUT the classroom."  A native Californian, she has considered Chicago home since 2004 and can often be seen commuting on her bicycle, experimenting with new sea salt concoctions for her small business Pixie Dust Salts, or doing DIY projects on her home in the North Lawndale neighborhood of Chicago.
