Refreshing Bread - daily meditation from the Word of God.
Meditation by Fr. Iuliu Muntean (RCD Canton, Ohio) on Mark 12:1-22
Meditation:
The purpose of this parable is nothing else but the growth of the goods that God has given or "planted" in us.
The owner of the vineyard is God the Father. The vineyard is the people of Israel, led by dishonest leaders, to whom the Lord sent his prophets, and finally his own Son. With the coming of the Messiah, we can now see the church as the vineyard. But in a more inner vision of the symbols of this story, the vineyard is ourselves, provided with everything necessary for salvation through our baptism and the multiple and continuous mercy of God.
The tenants can be interpreted in two ways: the first are the teachers of the Jewish people, the scribes and the Pharisees. In our time, the tenants are the pastors of the Church, bishops, priests representing the bishops in the parishes, and all Christians who believe and act righteously.
All the preparation of the vineyard is done by the master; the tenants are left in charge of the vineyard AFTER he has been planted it. It happens the same in the Christian life: God is revealed to us through his mercy, and he gives us everything necessary for our salvation. It is up to each one of us to take care of the vineyard of the Lord and bring the fruits that were sown in us at the moment of the baptism.
Let us ask God, as we approach the "time of the fruits" of our lives, to recognize always the cornerstone on which is build our whole life and our eternal happiness.
