Overview: It doesn't help to possess an invitation if you don't respond to it. The Gospel is so often and invitation that people simply do nothing about. Yet, astoundingly, there is nothing else in the world as important as this- Everything you worry about now will become nothing when Jesus makes everything right. Becoming merely religious won't throw God off your trail. A casual, non committed response is so typical of our day--trying to keep religious peace. But Jesus destroys the peace. His parable describes a man preparing a huge, expensive banquet. Every single person who was invited made a last minute excuse and refused come. What the man thought about these excuses is more important than what anyone else thought about them. The same is true of the Gospel invitation. The master was angry about the weak excuses and antithetically pours out grace on others. Beggars come into a richly provided environment, blessed way beyond their status. That's why the invitation seemed too good to be true, and they had to be compelled to come in. What, after all, they may have thought, would make a rich person want to have them at a banquet-Regardless, you need to respond to the Gospel in the same way that the poor people were supposed to respond. If someone offered to give you EVERYTHING, what excuse would you use to avoid having him give it to you- In Jesus' parable, refusing the invitation is refusing God- Forever- What could be a bigger privilege than such an invitation from God, where He is offering you everything-
