My heart-led decision to try teaching. 

• I had a childhood dream of becoming a teacher
• I was pursuing a teaching degree in 2011 but got sick
• The opportunity in Florida reignited that dream

The process of becoming a substitute teacher.

• Fingerprints, training, prep
• Felt proud to step into the role
• First assignment: middle school with behavioral students

How I went above and beyond.

• Learned names, connected with students
• Made the effort to build trust and create a calm environment
• Kids even noticed my effort and care

The misinterpretation and the unexpected outcome.

• Shared my podcast with a few students out of inspiration
• Asked for help in a class of 22 energetic first graders
• Feedback that wasn’t reflective of my actual performance
• Suddenly removed without fair process or understanding

How I processed the loss.

• Felt Hurt, confused, and disappointed
• Realized I didn’t do anything “wrong,” just was agains the policy of the contracting company
• Understanding that my gifts may be meant for a different classroom—the digital one, the podcast, my coaching, my community

The deeper wisdom.

• “Rejection is redirection” and “rejection is protection”
• Maybe getting sick was my body saying “pause”
• Maybe this isn't my final destination—just a stepping stone
• I am a teacher—just not in the traditional sense
• I empower others every day through my coaching, podcast, & content
