Today, we observe Laetare Sunday. The Fourth Sunday in Lent, which originates from the opening words of the Introit at the Mass (Is. 66:10, ‘Rejoice ye with Jerusalem’). In the western church, certain easings of the penitential observances of Lent are allowed, such as the wearing of rose-pink instead of purple vestments as an option. The Sunday is also known as Refreshment Sunday and Mothering Sunday.
