Relation of Indo-Nepal with Tarun Nautiyal (UPSC Praxis Mentor)

Listen Later

Ever since Indian Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji inaugurated Dharchula-Lipulekh Link Road for Mansarovar Yatra on 8th May, Nepali government started lodging protest against this road. Nepal alleged that India has built road in the area which historically belonged to Nepal and thus this unilateral act infringes Nepal's territorial integrity. Nepal issued various statements, press notes and reports to lay its claim. Nepali government said that as per the Suagauli Treaty of 1816, all the area to the east of Mahakali River belongs to Nepal and India should refrain from carrying out any activity on Nepalese Territory. India refuted this claim and pressed that India built the road well inside its territory. Nepal replied by publishing a new map laying its claim on Lipulekh, Kalapani and Limpiyadhura and amended the constitution via the Second Constitutional Amendment Act. This has brought about fresh contention. India dismissed Nepal's claim and hence enmity has risen. In this podcast, I am talking to Tarun Nautiyal (Mentor, UPSC Praxis) to get insight into the entire historical background and contemporary issues. This podcast will give you a clear glimpse of how India-Nepal relations work. Watch my complete analysis on this at https://youtu.be/QN_WjxSGbR8 .
