The boss is not always right but the boss is always the boss.
Working in the shadow of your boss is not always easy to do. There are times when you will want to assert your own personality more positively. You may feel the urge to speak out on views that may conflict with those of your boss.
Some subordinates resent that in addition to their other duties; they also need to take time and energy to manage the relationships with their bosses. Such managers fail to realize the importance of this activity and how it can simplify their jobs by eliminating potentially severe problems. While it is seldom (if ever) stated on their job description, effective managers recognize that this is part of their job.
