In this episode of the Arcade Studio podcast, we meet Vamshi Damagatla, a physicist at the Politecnico di Milano and stand-up comedian, capable of switching from Italian to English faster than you can say Schrödinger.
By day, Vamshi devotes himself to research on disparate topics such as medical imaging diagnostics, the physics of snow, chicken eggs, and Egyptian mummies. By night, he takes the stage at comedy clubs across Italy, performing in both English and Italian, turning culture shock, physics, and life experiences into laughter. Originally from India, with a background in theater, Vamshi has spent years juggling European research projects, learning a new language, and building a comedy career from scratch in a country where almost no one looks like him or speaks like him: all of this has shaped a comedic style that blends storytelling, dark humor, physics-based humor, and a ruthless sharing of personal details.
He has already brought his stand-up comedy show to Milan and is slowly (very slowly) touring it around Italy. In this conversation we talk about:
The source of creativity
Being one of very few Indian comedians performing in Italian
Balancing a career in physics research with stand-up comedy
Where science and humor meet
Life as a foreign researcher in Milan
His journey from Indian theater to Italian comedy clubs
