The case regarding the potential release of the Bali Five looks to be set for a resolution this month after Indonesia’s Co-ordinating Minister for Law, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra met with Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke in Jakarta on Tuesday.

Professor Donald Rothwell, one of Australia’s leading experts in International Law, told Peter Fegan on 4BC Breakfast, 'Indonesia's made the offer, it's now up to Australia to make sure that it happens from the Australian side, so to speak.'

'The difficulty that I see is that Australia and Indonesia don't have a prisoner transfer agreement in place.

In other words, there's no bilateral treaty that exists between the two countries that can actually facilitate this process,' Rothwell said.
