Remarkable Women 3: Maj. Gen. Jeannine Leavitt

Listen Later

Back in the 1990s, the U.S. Air Force had zero female fighter pilots. In 1991 a law was passed that allowed women to engage in combat, but a Department of Defense policy stated that women couldn’t fly combat.  This all changed when a top female graduate  Maj. Gen.Jeannine Leavitt persisted and eventually became the first-ever female US fighter pilot.   Maj. Gen. Leavitt has served as a role model not just for the world but inspired Marvel's creation of one of the galaxy's biggest superheroes, Captain Carol Danvers.  In this podcast, Dr. Suite explores some of the characterizes that contributed to Maj. Gen Leavitt's outstanding success as a bona fide American hero.  Dr. Suite also highlights how the extraordinary accomplishments and pioneering journey of Maj. Gen.Leavitt trail-blazed a path for women fighter pilots. #womenshistorymonth
