Jesus speaks strong words against anyone who teaches a false, distorted or perverted gospel. If anyone teaches the idea we need Jesus plus anything else in order to be saved, then that is a false gospel. Anyone who says "You can earn Heaven on your own" is preaching a false gospel. To ensure the gospel you hear is true, you must know what you believe, be careful who you listen to, look to the Scriptures, and put your trust in Jesus Christ alone.
